Supported Internships in Oxfordshire: Maisy’s SEND Employment Forum Newsletter

ree

Supported Internships in Oxfordshire are a great way for young people aged 16-25 with Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans to get real work experience and learn job-specific skills over 6-12 months.

These internships are offered through a partnership including Activate Learning, Abingdon and Witney College, and Oxfordshire Employment. They might include some traditional learning like English and Maths, and can be paid or lead to work qualifications, depending on the placement. The program is all about inclusion and support.

For example, Maisy, a former intern, now works as a SEND Media Support Officer at Oxfordshire County Council.

If a young person you know might be interested in a Supported Internship, please read Maisy's newsletter. View the PDF online or download it below:

You can also contact the Oxfordshire Employment Team for more information.

What Will You Learn?

Participants will learn jobspecific skills in the workplace and demonstrate their value to employers. Traditional learning, such as English and Maths, may be included where appropriate. Check out our Supported Internship (SI) info pages.

Pay and Qualifications:

You may be offered pay or achieve a work qualification, but every internship is personalised, and not all offer paid opportunities.

Employee Spotlight:

Maisy, now SEND Media Support Officer for Supported Internships at Oxfordshire County Council, began as an intern before taking a part-time paid role in January 2025. She has helped to raise SI visibility and accessibility in Oxfordshire. Congratulations to Maisy for her great work. “I strive to advocate for the Cerebral Palsy community, to be a voice for the voiceless. The people I work for and with share these goals, making every working day enjoyable”!

Fun Fact: “When I was ten, I met Denise VanHouten in an airport hangar”!
