We Want to Hear From Autistic People of All Ages in Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire is developing a new All-Age Autism Strategy, shaped by the real experiences of autistic people, their families and the wider community. As part of this work, we are creating a short film called:

“What It’s Like to Be Autistic in Oxfordshire.”

This film will be shown at our All-Age Autism Strategy Event on

Thursday 4 December at the King’s Centre in Oxford.

We want this film to reflect the voices, perspectives and experiences of autistic people of all ages across the county. And we’d love you to be part of it.

Why Your Voice Matters

For this strategy to be meaningful, it must be guided by autistic people themselves.

The people writing this plan need to hear directly from those who live the experience every day.

Your stories, ideas and reflections will help us understand what is working, what is not, and what needs to change to make Oxfordshire a more inclusive and supportive place.

Every experience matters—children, young people and adults.

How to Take Part: Share Your Experience

We’re inviting autistic people to send a short clip, up to one minute long, answering any of the following questions (you only need to choose one if you prefer):

  • What’s it like to be autistic in Oxfordshire?

  • What helps you feel understood or included?

  • What would make the biggest difference for you?

  • What’s important to you?

You can share your thoughts in any way that works for you, including:

  • speaking

  • signing

  • typing

  • AAC

  • drawings

  • photos

  • music

  • artwork

  • symbols

If you are non-vocal, you can use captions, a communication aid, or ask someone to share your words on your behalf.

Anyone who supports an autistic person—such as a parent, carer, friend, teacher or support worker—can help record or send in a contribution.

Where to Send Your Clip

Please send your video or any other type of contribution (written, visual or audio) to: autismstrategy@oxfordshire.gov.uk

Deadline: Monday 24 November

Join Us at the Strategy Event

You are also warmly invited to attend our All-Age Autism Strategy Event on 4 December.

This event will bring together autistic people, families, professionals and community members to share experiences, discuss priorities and help shape the next stage of the strategy.

Your Voice Is Important

By taking part, you will help us show what life is really like for autistic people in Oxfordshire and ensure that the strategy reflects the needs, strengths and priorities of the people it is designed to serve.

Thank you for helping shape a more inclusive future for everyone.
