The EOTAS Working Group – made up of experts by experience (parent carers with children and young people who have different lived experiences of EOTAS) – has worked alongside Oxfordshire Parent Carers Forum (OxPCF), SENDIASS Oxfordshire, and Oxfordshire County Council to develop a draft version of Oxfordshire’s new Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS) Guidance.
This draft guidance has been created to help families understand what EOTAS means, when it might be appropriate, and how it is agreed, arranged and supported by the local authority. It sets out the processes involved and aims to make sure information is clear, accessible, and reflects the realities of families in Oxfordshire.
EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than At School) is where a child or young person’s education, as set out in their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), takes place outside a school or college setting because attending one is not appropriate for them. This might include learning at home, working with tutors or therapists, or engaging in educational activities in the community.
The draft guidance was co-produced to make the process more transparent and to ensure that the voices and experiences of families and professionals are reflected throughout.
How to Get Involved
We’re inviting parent carers and young people to review the draft and share their feedback to help shape the final version.
Read the draft guidance:
Share your feedback by Friday 14 November:
You can also take part in one of our online feedback sessions to share your thoughts and ask questions:
Tuesday 11 November, 12.30–1.30pm
Tuesday 11 November, 6.00–7.00pm
Your feedback will play an important role in finalising the guidance and ensuring it works for everyone – families, professionals and young people alike.
Thank you for taking the time to read, reflect and respond. Your voice really does make a difference.
