The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) and Oxfordshire County Council (OCC), as part of a dedicated working group, are inviting autistic adults, parents or carers of autistic children or young people, and autistic professionals to share their experiences and insights. Your voices are essential to inform the development of Oxfordshire’s new All-Age Autism Strategy.
What is the Strategy About?
The goal of this strategy is to address the everyday barriers that autistic individuals face, aiming to:
1. Improve access to education and employment.
2. Enhance experiences in social care and support services.
3. Ensure access to comprehensive physical and mental health support.
This strategy will become an action plan reflecting the needs of the community by setting out practical solutions to real challenges. For more details on the strategy framework, you can refer to the National Autism Strategy 2021–2026.
How You Can Get Involved
Multiple ways are available to participate:
1. In-Person Drop-In Event: Come along on Friday, 15th November 2024, anytime between 12:00 pm and 6:30 pm at Wesley Memorial Church, Oxford. This event provides an open opportunity to speak directly with the team and share your experiences and ideas.
2. Virtual Event: For those unable to attend in person, an online engagement session will be held later in November. Dates/Times to be confirmed.
3. Written Feedback: Feel free to email your thoughts to Autism.Strategy@oxfordshire.gov.uk.
4. Telephone Call: If preferred, the team can arrange a time for a phone conversation that suits you. Simply email to set this up.

On the day, representatives from OCC and SCIE will be there to gather your feedback, including Claire Webster (Practice Development Consultant, SCIE), Ruby Sweetman (Commissioning Officer, OCC), Derek Gravett-Smith (Joint Commissioning Manager, OCC), and Vijay Patel (Head of Safeguarding, SCIE).
Privacy and Confidentiality
Your input will be anonymised, ensuring your personal information remains confidential. Following this engagement phase, a draft of the strategy will be shared for further input, with the final version anticipated in Spring 2025.
