About the event
School refusal is fast becoming a problem in education that is widely misunderstood. Blame and responsibility is placed on the child, making the situation worse. So how can we work together, as parents and educators, to understand and improve school attendance in children and young people?
- We are delighted to present a webinar on school 'refusal' where we will cover the following:
- What is school 'refusal'? How we need to reframe this in order to understand it.
- Early signs of school attendance difficulties and what they can tell us
- School-based trauma and anxiety: what causes it and how it impacts children and young people
- Blame culture: school blaming home, home blaming school
- What does the law say?
- What is the impact of fines and punishments?
- Magical co-production - how the collaborative work between home and school can really help
- Now, next and the future - how we can develop short, medium and long term goals to support and promote children and young people who experience difficulties in attending school (including when to apply for or amend an existing an EHCP or Statements)
- Alternative options to consider and how to achieve them
As always there will be time for questions throughout the presentation.
Slides, references and CPD certificates will be available to attendees along with a recording to watch the webinar again for up to 30 days afterwards.
